Labadi Sweater

The Labadi Sweater, also affectionately known as "Team Cardi C Sweater", is inspired by the team challenge on GOW where Simon and I created a cabled cardigan, which included the Sandwind cable pattern. The Labadi Sweater is named after Labadi beach in Accra, Ghana, which has absolutely stunning scenery. 

The Labadi Sweater is a top down drop shoulder sweater, designed with 20-25cm of positive ease. The Pattern begins by working the yoke flat, starting with the back panel and then picking up stitches for the right and left front. Once the left and right front are long enough, they are joined in the round. You will then work the main body of the sweater with the cable pattern, finishing with 4cm of 1x1 twisted rib. Stitches for the sleeves are then picked up and the cable pattern established. Some sizes will then work some gentle decreases to shape the sleeve. Finally you will work a 1x1 twisted rib collar.

Ease: This pattern has been graded with  20 - 25cm/7.75-10 inches positive ease. I would recommend picking the finished size which is a minimum of 20cm larger than your bust measurement. If you would like a more ease, I would recommend sizing up once more. 

Gauge:  22 stitches and 26 rows per 10 cm/4 inches in sandwind cable pattern  (after being blocked)

All quantities below are approximate and based on: meeting gauge, doing a swatch and a small margin for different knitting styles. Therefore if your size just tips over to requiring another skein of yarn you might want to consider if you can reuse your swatch yarn.

4mm (US 6) circular Needles for ribbing and cuffs

5mm (US 8) circular Needles for the main body and  sleeves

Cable needle

Length of circular needles, 24cm, 40cm, 60cm, 80cm ( 9”, 16”, 24”, 32”).
